I just saw Apocalypto. I don't know about the politics of the story, about historical accuracy or about Mel Gibson's beliefs or non-beliefs, but the story had a lot to make it worthwhile.
Early in the movie and old man tells a story about how Man asked each of the animals for power and the animals gladly gave Man gifts of good sight and strength and intelligence. Soon Man has all the powers of the animals and the animals realize that Man does not need them any more. And for the first time in their lives, the animals felt fear.
Apocalypto also shows a city bloated with corruption. The sick and elderly are discarded, the strong are exploited for their labor; the rich are fat from idleness.
So what does this movie have to do with this posting? Who is The Effing Librarian?
I'm just someone who's fat, lazy and smells like an animal. Fear me.
